Backup PuppyDog

The other night Max managed to sneak his puppydog in and throw him into the tub before we caught him. Not such a big problem except that our dryer happened to be broken. It was a bit of a struggle but he finally went to sleep without it. However, he cried out so many times that there was no sleeping until about 1:30. Usually when he cries out he will roll over, grab his puppydog and go back to sleep.

I knew that James had put the puppydog on a fan to try and dry it and out of desperation I took Max downstairs to track it down. Once he had his puppydog in his arms he fell right back to sleep and slept through the night. The annoying part was that the dog has been dry since 11:30 and James had put him on the banister thinking that I would see him. I laugh about it now because it is the act of a desperate and tired mom, but wanting to make sure this would never happen again, I got on ebay at 1:30 in the morning and bought another puppydog.

When it arrived I was surprised to see how soft and fluffy and colorful it was. I had forgotten what it originally looked like. Many, many washing have taken their tole on Max's dear puppydog. The funny thing is Max can totally tell the difference. He picked the new one up and immediately dropped it. He won't cuddle it or carry it around. We just need to wash it so it smells like our house and I think that in a pinch Max will accept it, but he definitely knows which one is HIS puppydog.

Yep, remember that stage. We ended up getting 10 blue IKEA dogs for Hadley because it was such trauma when we lost one on a plane trip to Utah. She too knew which was her original.

That is so funny! I think it's amazing that kids can tell which toy is their's and which one is the new one. But like you said, hopefully a few washes later it might get a little harder. ;) Good luck!

I should have done this with Korben's frog. The poor thing is completely destroyed (we finally weaned him of it though). Smart thinking on your part.

They absolutely KNOW. Little smarty pants that they are.

It's highly irritating at times (when we can't find the item), but so cute the way they get attached to things, too.
