2014 Kids Sayings

Zane and I had had a rough day in which he hit me on the way to a time out. At bedtime that night James must have talked to him because when I went in this is what Zane told me...
"Mom, you can't get away from Karma"...(long pause)..."or germs. But, you get away from germs by washing with soap and water. You get away from Karma by turning your punches into hugs."

Max was having a growth spurt and was complaining that his legs really hurt. One morning when asked to go upstairs and get dressed he said to Zane, "Zane, can you use your little muscles to help my big old achy muscles up the stairs?"

Zane: "My eyes turn white when I am drinking milk."

Zane: "Can you teach me how to sneeze like you?"

October: Max Loses his First Tooth

Max mentioned that his tooth was wiggly. When we looked we found a very loose tooth, but he didn't want James or I to touch it. The next morning it had fallen out and was no where to be found.

He told me that the tooth fairy was just pretend so it was okay but he still drew a picture of a tooth to put under his pillow. I printed a tooth fairy certificate and left him a dollar.

He was excited to see it and we went to the dollar store where he bought bath boats for he and Zane.

Zane didn't want to be left out so I took pictures of his teeth as well.

September

The boys love the waterfall at our new home.

~~~~~~~~~~
We got scooters for the boys for their birthdays and they are really enjoying them.
Zane randomly wears his spiderman costume whenever the mood strikes him.
~~~~~~~~~~

Cousin Brooklyn stayed with us for five days and the boys had fun having a little sister.

~~~~~~~~~~
The boys were even more excited than usual to go to the Discovery Museum because of the Bob The Builder Exhibit.
They worked hard together to send a message across the building to James.
~~~~~~~~~~

We took a school field trip to the Natural History Museum.

The boys especially enjoyed the horse exhibit.

~~~~~~~~~~
This month's UTVA activity was building a Minecraft city out of boxes and playing kickball. I am so grateful for the UTVA activities which give Max a chance to have fun with other kids and also learn to follow teacher's instructions.
~~~~~~~~~~

The boys were able to explore inside a police van and meet a police dog at the Tooele Library Superhero Day.

~~~~~~~~~~
Our truck broke down and we had to decide whether to fix it or trade it in. Since moving to Tooele we have been thinking about trading in the truck for something with better gas mileage and this was the push we needed to get it done. James did the research and decided that the Nissan Juke which is compact, gets good gas mileage and  has all-wheel drive was our best bet. We are upside-down on the loan quite a bit and the car is tiny compared to the truck (and it is white) but we are very happy with the gas mileage.
The boys had fun helping Dad to wash the car.
~~~~~~~~~~

It was no surprise that Max chose trains as the focus of 1st Grade ALP project.

To research we visited his favorite place in Tooele; the train museum as well as the Golden Spike National Historic Site where the Transcontinental Railroad was completed.

For the project he built a model train out of boxes and used the two Lego trains from Golden Spike to demonstrate the meeting of the trains. One of his favorite things during research was watching the video "Charlie Brown: Building of the Transcontinental Railroad."

August: Ogden Temple Open House

We met Kate, Mike and the cousins at the Ogden Temple Open House.

It was such a fast tour that I didn't feel that there was much chance to feel the spirit. The best part was walking through the sealing room and Max remembering some of the details of when we were sealed as a family. Even Zane, once he heard Max talk about it, seemed to remember being there before.

July

Tooele Train Museum
One of Max's favorite things about living in Tooele is having our very own train museum in town.

Madelyn's Blessing

~~~~~~~~~~
Tooele 4th of July Parade
The Boyds wanted to enjoy a 4th of July parade so drove to Tooele to enjoy the parade with us.
~~~~~~~~~~

Goodbye To the Boyd Family
Aunt Colleen, Carol, and Kathy invited us to a goodbye dinner at Chuck-A-Rama.
They used to take us there every summer when we stayed with them so it was nostalgic.

~~~~~~~~~~
Random happenings throughout the month...
* Madelyn (Boyd) stayed with us for a few days and the boys enjoyed having a little girl around.
They were very helpful taking care of her. Max especially loved giving her a bottle.
* The boys always love having Logan and Korben over to play.
* The boys love going to yard sales with me on Saturday mornings.
One of our fun finds was a Spider-Man couch.
May
James' work gave us tickets to go to a Salt Lake Bees Baseball game.
It was the first time the boys had been to a sport in an arena.
They had a ton of fun! And of course, even at a sports event there is a train that you just have to ride.
~~~~~~~~~~

As always my boys spoiled me for my birthday.
James picked up my favorite Cafe Rio salad along with delicious Cold Stone.
They each gave me a beautiful piece of jewelry to go in my brand new jewelry box.
The bracelet from James, the heart necklace from Max and the clock locket from Zane.

~~~~~~~~~~
We decided it was time for the fun of a trampoline.
Even though we hoped to be moving soon we decided we should put it up and enjoy it for the summer. The boys love it!
UTVA ALPS Outings Jan - Mar
HEALTHY HEARTS DISCOVERY DAY
Bobby Lawrence Karate
Max's Teachers
Mrs. Keeler, Kindergarten Teacher; Mrs. Davies, ALPS; Mrs. Charles, Literature
CAPITOL BUILDING TOUR
The school scheduled lunch and a tour of the Utah State Capitol Building.
Max's best school friend Aislynn was there and as always they are stuck together the entire time.
NATIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM
Max presented his project on dogs but it was so noisy that no one could hear anything. After the presentation began the crazy chaos of running around following his little friend Aislynn . We had lunch and played a few bat games for the monthly subject. Max asked if we could go back through the museum and he and I enjoyed an hour wandered around looking at whatever exhibits caught his eye and going back to the chocolate exhibit twice.
MAX'S DOG BOOK
Max chose dogs for his project and decided to put together a book. We read several books about dogs, gathering facts and he used his dog drawing book to draw several dogs. He made a cover, a title page, a table of contents and then pages of Firedogs, Chihuahuas, Worker dogs, Maggie & Buddy, pugs and his drawings.
Max's Turns Six!
Max's birthday was simple and yet somehow chaotic and crazy. James and I debated over and over different scooters as we tried to find the right one for our Max. When I came home with puppy wrapping paper Max was SO excited! He said thank you over and over. He loved his Thomas banner and got a huge kick out of his puppy bowl. He decided to save his cake for his birthday party with his cousins and asked if we could have s'mores on his birthday.
We started the morning with Max's favorite chicken bisquits from Chic-fil-a and then he opened his Jake and the Neverland Pirates Coloring Book. After coloring together with James he opened his Lego train set and they had fun putting it together. Max is getting really good at following the instructions for the little Legos.
James took Max on a birthday "recon" mission while I was at the girl's weekend and Max decided what he wanted most (even more than a new train set) was a scooter. After trying out two that were too difficult for him we finally found one that was just right.
(The green three-wheeled one.)
The day after his birthday cousins Logan, Korben, Andie and Hailey came to celebrate with Max. Max's cake request this year was a puppy cake. I found a cake that was simple but satisfied him. After hotdogs and chicken fries for dinner, the kids played "Pin the paw on the Puppy", had cake and ice cream, ran around in the backyard together and then opened presents. Logan and Korben gave him a minion shirt and a Lego Police car. Andie and Hailey gave him a load of art supplies that all the cousins had a chance to play with before heading home.
I can't believe my little boy is already six!
March 2014
Zane
He likes being the "bad guy", has decided that red is his favorite color, 7 is his favorite number and he totally digs spiderman
(even though he has never really watched it.) He likes to talk to his toys and his food in a cute, tiny, squeaky voice and has started calling Max "brother" all the time.
Maxi
He still carries his puppy Scruffy everywhere with him, art is his favorite subject,
he cries easily (especially when his little brother is picking on him) and he is very sensitive to the light.
A girl's weekend with Mom before her mission.
We talked, laughed, ate too much food, stayed up too late, had a Mary Kay party and attended a Temple session together. It was a wonderful weekend despite how miserable I felt. I couldn't enjoy it as much as I hoped but I was so glad to be there. Because I was sick Jessica and I talked all about the doterra oils and I was reminded what a part of my life it used to be. I'm not sure how I let that part of my life go but I am so grateful to have reconnected with it. When I got home I replenished my oil supply and am learning again how to use them.
My new headboard found on KSL.
Kells gave us a desk that is such a great school desk for Max.
February 2014
Cousins Jesse, Hannah and Becca joined us for our Thursday night Girl's night.
After re-introducing ourselves we chopped vegetables for a homemade salsa then stayed up til 3 am talking.
Valentine's Day
We made our silly mailboxes a few days before Valentines and then had a few days of fun and yummy gifts.
(Dad had the lion, Mom the butterfly, Max the fox (dog) and Zane had the elephant.)
I almost didn't string the house this year but Max was so disappointed that he helped me with some simple stringing which they followed to their gifts. Max's gift was a Lego construction vehicle and Zane's was a Lego fire truck.(Grandpa Keith forgot to give them to the boys for Christmas so they got them for Valentines.)
